#Fashion: Fortieth anniversary of death of Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel represents (even now although she passed away 40 years ago) women empowerment and success. Her clothes are simple but chic. She used to say –  ‘Luxury must be comfortable otherwise it is not luxury’. According to Coco Chanel in order to present yourself in impeccably way you would have to combine harmony and good taste. What even more important is that not what you wear but how you wear it!

Wool jersey, swimming suits, sport clothes, and clothes with masculine elements its all associated with Coco Chanel. She designed clothes for women who perceived themselves equal to man, rather than being just a complement to men. She understood perfectly how to make woman feel powerful and independent.

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born in 19th August 1883. She grow up (together with her 4 sibilings) in orphanage due to her mother death just before her 12th birthday. She was trying her luck in dancing and singing. Her famous gig was Ko Ko Ri Ko and Qui qu’a vu Coco, and that comes her nickname Coco. She opened her first boutique, in Cambon Street, designing and selling hats to her colleagues from ‘showbusiness’.

Chanel implemented faux pearls, so women start wearing them during numerous occasions. In 1925 she released her landmark cardigan, still worn nowadays by female politicians and businesswoman. Her first collection after the Second World War was presented in 1954 and turned in incredible success with The Little Black Dress – the dress every woman should have in the wardrobe.

Coco Chanel was working until her last days. She died in her Ritz  hotel room in Paris where she was living since 1939.

Her collections are still on top in the fashion world thanks to Karl Langerfeld, who is a creative director since 1983.
